Join other women for a potluck picnic at Fort Cronkite on Saturday, June 25th. We’ll meet at church at 10:00am to carpool. Bring a little something to eat, and we’ll enjoy each other’s company as well as lots of conversation and beautiful surroundings!

A Concert of joyful singing and joyous singers. Featuring: Marin Harmony & Sing We EnchantedSunday, May 15 at 4:00 p.m. Marin Harmony – a community chorus of 26 singers that perform a capella do-wop and jazz arrangements. Directed by Rebecca Jones, the chorus performs for the county’s numerous retirement communities, and in July 2010 won 5th place at the Marin County Fair’s Marin Star Search Group Competition. Four of our youth will affirm their faith during their confirmation celebration on May 15 at the 11:00 a.m. service. On Friday, May 20th at 7::30 p.m. these confirmands will share their Faith Statements with family and friends. Dessert will be shared following the presentations. We will be holding three small group gatherings for the purpose of enjoying fun and fellowship as well as having the opportunity to talk about the mission, ministry and funding of same in a small group. The spots are limited, so if you are interested in attending one of these gatherings please sign up at church or call the church office to reserve a space (924-3782). Holiday Weekend Brunch – for 10 Coffee & Dessert – for 10 Summer Family Barbeque – for 4-5 families with children Thank you to the above council members for hosting these groups. If you need directions to their homes, please contact the church office. Join us for a service on Maundy (Holy) Thursday beginning at 7:00 p.m. The service begins with a procession of the symbols of this Holy day. There will be opportunity for individual forgiveness of sins, and partaking in the Lord’s Supper. Representatives of our congregation will also participate in foot washing. At the close of the service, the altar/chancel area is stripped in preparation for Good Friday. At 8:00 p.m. on Good Friday, April 22nd, join us for a Tenebrae service. Through the spoken Word, music and candlelight, we hear the Passion story of our Lord. The service ends with Jesus’ crucifixion on the cross as we await Easter morning. What is a Tenebrae Service? This service is one of the oldest traditional services in the Christian church. Tenebrae (Latin for darkness) was the name given to this medieval predawn prayer celebrated by monks during the last three days of Holy Week. Through the years, it was moved to Holy Wednesday evening and then later to Good Friday evening. In the beginning of the service, the sanctuary is filled with light. As the Passion of St. John is read, the candles are extinguished – representing the disciples and other followers of Christ as they all gradually took to flight. The ensuing darkness symbolizes the growing fear and hatred of the world against the Savior. The Procession of the Cross, or the Adoration of the Cross, is also steeped in our Christian tradition. It acknowledges the cross as a sign of the world’s redemption. The strepitus, a loud noise, breaks the silence towards the end of the service. It’s symbolism is multi-layered: for the earthquake at Jesus’ death, the closing of the tomb and a foreshadowing of the rending of Christ’s tomb at Easter. The large candle, the Paschal candle, symbolizes our Savior. It is removed to symbolize his death. We are people who know the end of the story. We know that death does not have the last word. The final theme of Good Friday is not lament but triumph. The concluding verse, spoke by the pastors, echoes this note of confidence: By your holy Cross you have redeemed the world. Christ is risen! Christ is risen indeed! Alleluia! Easter morning we hold two festive services beginning at 9:00 and 11:00 a.m. We hear the good news that Christ is risen and we again proclaim our alleluias! Filled with joyful music, our pastor shares an Easter message and we celebrate Holy Communion. Between services, beginning at 10:00 a.m. join us for an Easter brunch held in the Parish Hall. Our children will participate in an egg hunt. If the butterflies that the children have been carefully watching have broken out of their chryaslis, and are ready to fly, the children will release them and watch as they explore their new environment. Historically, butterflies have been a symbol of the resurrection. JOIN US! March 9, 2011 – Ash Wednesday service at 7:00 p.m. House Church Soup Supper and Holy Communion If you are interested in membership at Marin Lutheran or would simply like to find out more about our church, you are invited to come to the following two classes: Saturdays, March 19 & 26 from 9:30 – 11:00 a.m. Classes will be led by Pastor Tom and/or Pastor Kathryn. We will meet at church. Breakfast will be served. These classes are not limited to those new to Marin Lutheran. If you have been here many years and would like to attend, please join us. Our kids from K-5th grade will head to the firehouse in San Francisco where Rob Zlatunich is a fire fighter. He will give us a tour of the fire house. We will meet at church at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 20th to car pool to the city. We have lots of children who are already signed up to go, so if your child is interested please let us know. Thank you to the parents who have let us know whether you are available to drive, we will be asking several of you be drivers/chaperones. Following the fire house tour we will stop in a park in SF to play games or stop in Mill Valley for frozen yogurt — depending on the weather that day.
