San Quentin Community Project - September 26

On Saturday, September 26th from 9:00am to 3:00pm our Social Action Ministry Team is leading a community project at the Visitor’s Center of San Quentin Prison.  The visitor’s center, run by Friends Outside, has large storage areas — the basement and garage — that need to be cleaned out and reorganized.  A dumpster will be onsite to discard all the old, broken or unusable items that have accumulated.  (The funds to rent the dumpster came from Thrivent Financial Member Action Team requests.)  We will dispose of these items and then reorganize what remains, so they are readily accessible.

Family and friends sometimes have a long wait at the visitors center before they are allowed to visit loved ones.  The goal is to make them as comfortable as possible.  They also provide child care on the weekends, so have child friendly areas.

In addition, our Social Action team is conducting a used clothing drive.  The dress code for visitors is very strict, so individuals can temporarily “swap” clothes at the visitors center if they have worn something that is not allowed.  We are hoping to restock some of their dwindling supplies.
